Art Macabre returns to the magnificent hidden treasure of the MASONIC TEMPLE at Andaz Hotel. Part of East London Film Festival in collaboration with A Curious Invitation's Masquerade Ball event. We take inspiration from Hogarth's The Rake's Progress. Explore through our raucous and outrageous tableaux the moral "The Devil makes work for idle hands" with our trio of costumed and nude characters. A 'Silent Disco' style headset soundtrack will make the experience all the more intimate!

Mourning and Melancholia: Death Drawing with Art Macabre at Freud Museum

A special collaboration with the Freud Museum. Explore and draw the complex web of emotions associated with these two states of loss, and their links to depression. Nude and veiled models will pose throughout the museum, presenting poetic tableaux and symbols portraying absence and loss. Sketch model Freyia and powerful hair symbolism and performance, inspired by Victorian mourning jewellery. Draw their presence and explore ideas of negative space and absence through your sketches too. With poetry readings by William Blake and quotes from Freud's essay "Mourning and Melancholia" published 100 years ago.
