Expect smells and bells, ritualistic iconography and lots of GOLD.

Another festival season kicks off with ALSO! Also Festival, run by those wonderfully cerebral and creative folk at Salon London, is 'A Small Festival of Big Ideas'. Set in an idyllic lakeside setting in Warwickshire,  we shall be sharing the line-up with the likes of Phillipa Perry, Sarah Corbett, Jamie Bartlett and many more. Across the weekend we shall present two life drawing workshops for everyone attending to take part in:

THE QUANTUM LIFE DRAWING EXPERIMENT - a unique collaboration! The world premiere of quantum physics Art Macabre life drawing mashup with CERN scientist Prof Ben Allenach.

ART MACABRE'S PAPER THEATRE: THE TEMPEST Use your imagination to create fantastical costumes, accessories and props for our life models- all from paper! Dress our lifesize paper dolls and watch them create tableaux vivant inspired by the magic and drama of Shakespeare's The Tempest. You get to play theatre director, set designer and scenic artist! A family friendly, all ages creative workshop event.

The biggest and most exciting RA Late so far! To celebrate the Summer Exhibition and the opening of the sparkling new Royal Academy, this event promises to be a wonderland of creative participatory fun, magic and spectacle that we are thrilled to be part of once more. The programme is bursting at the seams and tickets are very nearly sold out!

As part of a modern pleasure garden theme, in the RA's recently reopened historic Life Drawing Room we shall present illicit sensual marionettes. A cheeky peepshow styled puppet show, revealing costumed and nude characters to be sketched across the night. Think Tim Walker meets Angela Carter.

Our friends at Wildlife Drawing are also offering the chance to sketch butterflies and bunnies too! So lots of drawing fun to be had across the event.

Our now annual celebration of Frida Kahlo, one of the world's leading artists. To coincide with the opening week of the V&A's blockbuster Frida Kahlo exhibition, we present a life drawing exploration of the vision and legacy of Frida.

Explore her unique Surrealist vision of pain, pleasure and passion. We will have two models, posing as contrasting aspects of Frida Kahlo's character and viewpoint. Recreating some of her self-portraits and paintings with flesh, flora, fruit and skulls.

From "Exquisite Corpse" drawing game warm ups to collage materials available to capture the colourful expressiveness of her art, we will do our best to conjure up the weird and wonderful world of Frida Kahlo at this workshop.

Grab a mezcal from the bar upstairs and sketch to a soundtrack of Mexican folk, jazz beloved by her and mariachi music.

Limited spaces...this one will sell out, mark our words!

SOLITARY PLEASURES: FREUD MUSEUM SPECIAL

Explore and draw the theme of masturbation, eroticism, desire and fantasy after hours within the Freud Museum. Nude figures will pose throughout the museum's domestic settings, celebrating and challenging our perceptions of the theme of self-pleasure, diverse sexualities and sexual health. Art Macabre invites you to examine, through your illustrations and mark making, our complex sexual, erotic and intimate encounters with ourselves. Capture unique snapshots of intimate moments as our model tableaux give playful private moments a public platform to be observed and sketched.

There will be the opportunity to also enjoy the Solitary Pleasures exhibition featuring work by artists Shannon Bell, VALIE EXPORT, Chantal Faust, Antony Gormley, Jordan McKenzie, Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens, Emma Talbot, and Michelle Williams Gamaker.

Back by popular demand, Art Macabre curate an evening of celestial life drawing in the Painted Hall.

Sketch models Peter Mitchell and Tasha. Observe and draw exquisite details from the painted ceiling as we take you on a journey of celestial discovery. Enjoy a dreamy soundtrack whilst sketching celestial bodies and myths of the sun, moon, stars and zodiacs.

Seating will be provided but for the best view of the ceiling feel free to bring a cushion, yoga mat or sleeping bag to lie back and enjoy the view. All drawing materials and paper included.

With special guest model performer AMY KINGSMILL who will pose red-caped and nude to portray scenes from stories including Company of Wolves, Wolf Alice and The Bloody Chamber.

Enjoy drawing dramatic and bold tableaux from Carter's gloriously dark and sensual feminist retelling of fairytale and myth. Create your own illustrations to these tales, as excerpts are read out.

This Halloween, explore the dark arts through women, politics and propaganda at the Tower of London. Sketch dramatic costumed figures in the Medieval Palace.

Under the watchful eye of guest artist Matt Valentine be inspired by 16th Century woodcut illustrations depicting witch rituals. Be prepared to be put under a spell as you experience the eerie atmosphere of the Tower at night. With model Amy Kingsmill as one of our witches.

PART OF LIFE UNCUT festival with Science Gallery.

In this live art life drawing session, Art Macabre invite you to explore the taboos associated with blood, pain and endurance. Learn about the history of socially sanctioned and pathological models of blood and bleeding in an introduction by historian of medicine Sarah Chaney, before witnessing a performance of ‘Bloom’ by artist Amy Kingsmill, in which the artist pins white rose petals to her face with hypodermic needles. While drawing or writing poses from this slow motion work, viewers will be asked to consider the potential beauty in sacrifice, and the full spectrum of feeling associated with extreme endurance. Followed by the opportunity to share creative responses and discussion with the artist Amy Kingsmill and Sarah Chaney.

Art Macabre will revive our sell out Twin Peaks themed death drawing salons as part of TWIN PEAKS FESTIVAL this October. A must for any Twin Peaks fans, as part of the festival weekend ticketholders can draw iconic scenes and characters from the cult series.  Led by graphic artist Jon Attfield, an hour long drawing event will take place on both the Saturday and Sunday. DEATH AND THE MAIDEN

Art Macabre takes inspiration from expiration. A classic death drawing salon.  Create portraits of life and death together. Sketch a skeleton posing with a nude human figure, as they dance the danse macabre together. Flesh and bone.

Tableaux inspired by classic 'death and the maiden' imagery from Franz Fiedler to Klimt and Maria Abramovic. This event will feature some longer poses for you to capture the serene and poetic tableaux.

KEW AFTER HOURS: THE HIVE

Art Macabre are buzzing to be collaborating with Royal Botanic Gardens Kew. As part of their The Hive After Hours events, exploring pollination and the power of bees based around the installation in the gardens. We will be part of a wider series of activities exploring themes of the bees and pollination. Tickets include a chance to see the Hive at dusk, honey tasting, talks and more. Come and sketch our models posing as larger than life flowers and bees! CEMETERY SKETCHING: SHUFFLE FESTIVAL

Join Art Macabre as we take death drawing to a Victorian cemetery. Sketch outdoors in the beautiful historic surroundings of graves, trees, ivy and angel architecture. Draw upon the rich history of the living and the dead that exists at Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park. 

Part of Shuffle Festival - an annual celebration of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park, founded by Danny Boyle and team.
