7:30 PM19:30

RA LATE: MOULIN ROUGE CIRCUS LIFE DRAWING!

Roll up, roll up! Art Macabre return for another excitingly themed RA Late event! This time, be transported to the bohemian decadence of 1890s Paris at our end-of-summer party. Think underground café societies, cabarets, can-can dancing, absinthe dens and palatial salons at this end-of-summer party at the RA, inspired by our exhibition, Félix Vallotton: Painter of Disquiet.

Our Twisted Circus Drawing Salon will celebrate Moulin Rouge! This spectacular, infamous dancehall opened in 1899 and offered a range of entertainments from circus troupes and clowns, to acrobats and tightrope walkers. The circus was considered a form of artistic expression in 19th-century Paris, offering inspiration for painters of the time.

At this theatrical life drawing class, Art Macabre invite you to draw contemporary circus acts that take inspiration from the Moulin Rouge’s characters and performers, celebrating the physical spectacle and creativity of the circus. Get ready to sketch circus folk! Tickets and more programme info here.

PREGNANT WRESTLER LIFE DRAWING!

With model HEATHER BANDENBURG aka RANA VENENOSA- Queen of the Sewer

Art Macabre return to the Book Club for a one-off summer sketching special! With an extra special model to capture in your doodles in the form of a pregnant wrestler...posing in costume and full nude in all her bumped glory.

Yep, you read it right. Where else will you get to sketch a pregnant Lucha Britannia wrestler on a Tuesday evening? Join us at The Book Club's basement bar to sketch Heather Bandenburg aka Rana Venenosa - "Queen of the Sewer". Not only is she a kick-ass Lucha wrestler but she also has a baby growing in her tummy and we expect some amazing poses to be drawn!

Rana Venenosa is resident femme fatale at the UK's only Lucha Libre wrestling show. Heather trains at the London School of Lucha Libre, amongst some of the craziest and warmest wrestling talent in the world. Forget GLOW - this is the REAL THING!

Heather is also author of the recently published 'Unladylike: A Grrl's Guide to Wrestling', with Unbound, the first book written about feminism and wrestling - it follows one unlikely woman's journey to becoming an infamous masked wrestler, and honestly retells the life lessons grappling teaches her on the way. And as it that weren't enough, Heather is also the founder and event producer for the incredible I Need to Cher nights. What a wonder woman! We can't wait to welcome her for her Art Macabre debut and see what poses she brings...to a soundtrack featuring a few Cher power ballads, no doubt.

Drawing materials and paper provided, thanks to GreatArt. Bring your favourite paints and inks if you'd like, there'll be tables and space to get messy/draw big!
