KEW AFTER HOURS: THE HIVE

  • Royal Botanic Gardens Kew Unite Kingdom (map)

Art Macabre are buzzing to be collaborating with Royal Botanic Gardens Kew. As part of their The Hive After Hours events, exploring pollination and the power of bees based around the installation in the gardens. We will be part of a wider series of activities exploring themes of the bees and pollination. Tickets include a chance to see the Hive at dusk, honey tasting, talks and more. Come and sketch our models posing as larger than life flowers and bees!

COLLABORATORS with us on Kew After Hours: The Hive are Antonia Forster, Marnie Scarlet and Cecilia Bailey

Antonia Forster is an entomologist, science performer, comedian and rapper. Possibly the only scientist named after her expertise, Ant completed an MSc in social-insect behaviour and published her research. She now works at the intersection of science, art, theatre and comedy; on a mission to make insects sexy. This is a brand of science performance you really can't forget. REALLY. We've tried.

Antonia has performed at science centres, zoos, museums, schools, conferences and festivals: including Elderflower Fields, Camp Wildfire, and Wilderness Festival. She has also been featured on BBC Radio Bristol and BBC Radio H&W. At Kew After Hours, she will be debuting a brand new performance piece- a rapping bee, with a score to settle. The honeybee is about to get knocked off her throne...All dates except 17 Aug.

Marnie Scarlet is the scarlet diva of fetish cabaret- an internationally renowned performance artist and model quite unlike any other. She is renowned for her fabulously larger-than-life costumes and looks. Self styled and creating all of her own costumes, she is queen of latex, flower and feather. Marnie will bring dramatic flower power to be drawn as a seductive living floral creature, ready to be pollinated!  All dates.

Cecilia Bailey shall be posing and performing as an operatic singing solitary bee on 17 August. Cecilia is a classical soprano. Tired of the honey bee taking all the spotlight, it is time for this diva to share her tale in song!
